The 2012 International Magnetics Conference started May 7 at Canada Place and is on-going the whole week.

The Yaletown BIA  set up a booth on Monday, gave away discount cards from Yaletown restaurants, and invited delegates to shop and dine in Yaletown.

The Yaletown crew will be at Canada Place the entire week, with more giveaways. Look out for them in their white Yaletown jackets from 11am-2pm.

Also, be on the lookout for another new patio! Chinois (1035 Mainland St) is currently constructing their patio which will be open soon.

Topping the event again this year, Yaletown was the only exhibitor to bring a male model bearing a map of Yaletown. Everyone marked Mr. Yaletown with their favorite shops, restaurants, and venues!

The Real Housewives of Vancouver is a lifestyle reality series, which follows the lives of five bourgeois and successful women.

Mary, a local from Yaletown, was a successful singer with numerous songs on the top 40 charts.

Besides her music, she’s a mother of three teenage boys and she also sits on the Board of Directors for Epilepsy and Seizure Education in British Columbia and is very active in such campaign as NOH8, PETA, BWSS and Angkor Children’s Hospital. Mary uses her music to raise money for these various causes and a portion of the sales of her music are donated to charities close to her heart.

We are very proud to have such a philanthropist living in our neighbourhood!

Pink Shirt Day is a nationwide campaign to raise awareness for bullying and its detrimental effects.  Please wear pink on Wednesday, Feb. 29  to help stop bullying.

About The 2012 Illuminate Yaletown Photo Contest:

The 3rd annual Illuminate Yaletown photo contest will run February 10 and 11, 2012. Photographs from the 2 nights can be eligible for the prize if submitted by February 19, 2012 11:59pm (PST).

Light art will illuminate Yaletown starting at sunset at 6pm. Photographers are encouraged to take photos and add them to this Illuminate Yaletown Flickr group.

Judging will begin on the following Monday for the fantastic grand prize!

Adding your photo(s) to the Illuminate Yaletown Flickr group with the tag “Illuminate Yaletown” constitutes entry into the contest. Photos would ideally also be tagged with “Yaletown” and “Vancouver.”

Photo license settings on Flickr should be set to “Attribution Creative Commons.” Attribution definition: “You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work – and derivative works based upon it – but only if they give you credit.”

Radix Theatre is setting up a fabulous display for Illuminate Yaletown on February 10 at the Roundhouse Community Centre. The exhibit will show a film of a wild diversity of hands at work drawing the sun.

Come and see the incredible video of hundreds of hands drawing hundreds of suns projected on the windows of the Roundhouse Engine Pavillon at Illuminate Yaletown 2012 and add your drawing to the mix!

Illuminate Yaletown is a FREE outdoor winter party that will bring fun light-art displays to the streets of Yaletown. 2012 will feature many never-before-seen exhibits from top artists and designers, including:

Vancouver Design Nerds, the creators of “Factory” in 2011. The Design Nerds created a shadow projection of a fictitious factory a must have accessory – a purse with a dog inside!

EOS Lightmedia have created the control systems needed for the Telus World of Science light shows. They will bring Nintendo Wii controls to help you interact with their new exhibit

LED Group Inc will create the first ever Illuminated Fashion Show!! A commemoration to Alexander McQueen, LED Group’s George Gorton will dress fashion mannequins using light art.
